Our global workforce is transforming and being impacted in new ways

1
Rising use of AI
The rapid advancement and adoption of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Copilot is transforming knowledge work—but not evenly. Within many organizations, AI use is fragmented: some employees embrace it enthusiastically, others are cautious or skeptical, and some are left behind entirely. This uneven adoption creates performance gaps, workflow breakdowns, and missed opportunities for innovation.
Moreover, many of the collaboration techniques and norms we rely on in human-to-human work environments don’t translate well to hybrid teams that include AI. For example, brainstorming, delegation, and revision cycles need rethinking when AI is a team member. As organizations evolve, they need new strategies to build inclusive, effective, and equitable working models that incorporate both human and AI collaborators.
2
Intergenerational Teams
The U.S. workforce is increasingly multigenerational, with four generations, Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z—working side by side. While this diversity offers the potential for rich collaboration and innovation, it also introduces significant challenges in communication, expectations, work styles, and values. These gaps are contributing to misunderstandings, reduced productivity, higher turnover, and even intergenerational bias in the workplace. See citations.
3
Inclusion of Neurodivergence
The workforce is becoming increasingly aware of the value of diversity and inclusion. However, a significant and often untapped talent pool exists within the neurodivergent community, including individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, dyslexia, and other cognitive differences. While there is a growing interest in hiring neurodivergent talent, many organizations lack the necessary knowledge and skills to create truly inclusive and supportive work environments (Austin & Pisano, 2017). This gap leads to several issues:
-
High turnover rates
-
Underutilization of talent
-
Poor communication and collaboration
-
Legal and ethical risks
